Raising Awareness – National Museum of Puerto Rican Arts & Culture

In May 2024, the National Museum of Puerto Rican Arts and Culture in Chicago was hosting a ceremonial performance by an indigenous tribe along with an official neighborhood renaming to reflect indigenous roots. The museum wanted to raise awareness among the general public to attend, learn about indigenous culture and history and why it’s critical to recognize these roots today. Own It PR secured media coverage from numerous broadcast, print and digital outlets including CBS 2 Chicago, ABC 7 Chicago, WGN TV Chicago, Chicago Sun-Times and Block Club Chicago. Each media outlet created a narrative about the performance and renaming based on the content and interviews Own It PR provided and coordinated, which helped to educate a broad audience and raise awareness of the museum’s mission. Own It PR continued to partner with the Museum over the summer months to provide ongoing media relations for their events, resulting in more than 30 media placements and millions of impressions.

Shining Light on An Issue – Police Station Response Team

In 2023, a volunteer group (the “Police Station Response Team” - PRST) sought to shine light on the migrant crisis in Chicago – specifically, during the time migrants were being housed in the city’s police station lobbies without food or proper access to restroom facilities. On behalf of PRST, Own It Public Relations drafted a letter that was sent to all 50 Chicago alderman requesting immediate improvements and followed up with a media campaign sharing the letter and offering interviews with lead volunteers to discuss the crisis. Coverage appeared and Own It Public Relations became the de facto publicist representing the volunteer effort around the situation. Over the course of three months, nearly every major media outlet in Chicago covered the topic and featured the volunteers, including the Chicago Tribune, Block Club Chicago, Chicago Sun-Times, WBEZ, ABC 7 Chicago, CBS 2 Chicago, NBC 5 Chicago, WGN TV Chicago and Telemundo. Own IT PR also handled inquiries and secured interviews from national outlets such as NPR and The Wall Street Journal.
